Languages on Television

Even though television is supposed to be a reflextion of real life it seems apparent that it also turns back and influences the life that it reflects. This applies to language learning as well.

My brother actually tried someting similar to this in Spanish when he was a little boy.

Some people just don’t feel like talking in any language.

If you flaunt your language skills you can expect this type of treatment.

Why three way interpreting should be avoided.

Easier said than done.

Do these portrayls of languages and language learning help us or hurt us?

What has Happened to the News…

What has happened to the network news networks

What has happened to the network news networks

Are their no great investigative reporters any more,  least not on the network news?

It seems the criteria for network news reporters is to look good and be able to read a teleprompter.

The people writing the scripts for these teleprompters are propagandist at the least. They show snippets of viral videos ( not even there own ) and edit them in such a way as to fool there audiences to believing an issue or starting a sensation. They invite guests to argue about issues and let them use buzz words and catch phrases without stopping them and asking for real answers to serious questions. It is not that they don’t sometimes get caught. But it seems when they get caught it is by a comic relief news programs like the Daily Show. What has become of  news  programing that I have to count on a comedian to tell me the truth about what is going on in the world.

When I talk to the average person on the street who has to work and take care of a family and maintain a home etc., they only get information about current issues and events from what they see on the 30 min or so of news they watch on TV. Now depending on what channel they choose to watch, they can hear different sides of the issue, presented in a favorable tone. So if you are on the Right you might be partial to watch FOX. If you are on the Left you might watch CNN. While MSNBC tries to cover both, but still picks a side it seems,  depending on the issue.

If a listener does not like what they hear, then they can change the station and listen to the other side in a light that makes the issue being presented to them fit their point of view. So the viewer is allowed to pick the answer he or she wants to hear, not necessarily the truth.

This is not news. This is propaganda… Deceit is a good word. Truly there are always three sides to an issue. They are, what one side believes, what the other believes, and the truth. This third side is what the news is supposed to represent, the truth.

If the news is creating sensations or even deceiving the public to up ratings, they should be disciplined and fined.  Yet their really is no watch dog for the news agencies, or if there is, what are they doing?

Frankly, people have gotten used to the way this is done. The sad thing is they often indulge themselves in the lies, after watching these channels, and basing their opinions and decisions on them.

It’s political season again and this where the crap really starts to fly. Well, we’ll chat more on this subject as you see it is an issue with me. Any comments please make them.

What career choices do you have left in America…

Career Choices in America

Making The Right Career Choice.

What career choices do you have left in America? Babblefish is a web site that is frequented by many college students, so this is an interesting subject. All students who are entering college now want to better themselves and find work that pays a good, if not at least a livable salary.  Do not forget that most middle class and lower class  students come out owing massive student loans — in the range of 150,00 to 300,000 dollars if they attend any recognized University or College.

This means that students need to make some real serious decisions early in their college electives and field of study. They need to understand that a degree itself does not guarantee that they will find a job better than a laborer or sales clerk. No, the degree has to have some Merritt. It needs to be in a field that is growing and/or at least sustaining in this fickled world economy transition.

Students need to know what they plan to do with their lives and what field of study they best fit. It is my belief you should do something you like to do, but the reality of today’s job market is that you need to fit the positions available.

So where do we start to make the right decisions? That is a good question. Hopefully, this blog will start some interesting banter about the subject. So please respond to this blog with any information you might have that can help American Students make the correct decision when choosing a field of study and even the particular colleges best suited for those types of degrees.

New Trends in Obtaining College Textbooks

New trend in purchasing textbooks

Textbook Time Again

College days are here again and textbooks are always the first order of business. However there are new trends in purchasing college textbooks.

The tradition has always been to buy your textbooks new or used and sell them back at the end of the semester. The new trend is to rent textbook for the semester and return them or download an e-textbook.

The stores that rent textbooks claim that the advantage of renting them is that it saves money to rent instead of buying and gets the same result in your classes. There is no risk of your books becoming worthless by the end of the semester. Now you can rent college textbooks from the comfort of your home or office along with students on over 4,000 college campuses.

Should students be joining  the movement? Have you or anyone you know rented textbooks? If so please leave a comment and let’s see what we can learn from each other.

Another new trend is electronic text books, e-textbooks. These books can be downloaded and used on electronic reading devices such as Kindles or Jet-books as well as on laptops etc. If you use e-textbooks please leave a comment and let us know what you think and how it works out for you.

So in conclusion, if you buy, rent or download your textbooks, and have a suggestion or comment that may help other students, please do share it with us by posting a comment on this on this blog.

Babblefish Seeks Teachers for Online Classroom Development

babblefish seeks teachers

Moodlefish - Babblefish seeks teachers

Babblefish.com is actively looking for teachers to form partnerships with in developing and teaching   courses in language translation, global business practices, political science, journalism, economics.  history, etc.

Babblefish has set up a moodle site called Moodlefish and it is ready to add courses and enroll students. Presently this is a labor of love and there is no pay. However if you can provide the curriculum and teach the class Babblefish will share revenue from students entree fees once the site starts to produce an income.

The exact business model for creating an income has yet to be developed. Each class will have to be evaluated potential and that will determine what the students will pay. With all the teacher layoffs and education budget cuts,  it seems like an  ideal time to reach out to educators and teachers who may be unemployed. This is an excellent opportunity to make a name for yourself and stand out above others when looking for that next teaching position, also to help yourself while helping others learn.

Please respond to this post if you have a desire to join the Babblefish Moodlefish team or if you have any suggestions or insight on how to make this the best learning site in the world.
